The Loubi Show III

Christian Louboutin’s love for theatre is evident in the highly conceptual presentations of his seasonal collections. Always entertaining, for his fall/winter 2023 collection titled ‘The Loubi Show’, which celebrated the 30th anniversary of the red sole, the sophisticated and famous “shoe maker” and dream creator once again dazzled. By filling the 18th century Opéra Comique with celebrities such as Avril Lavigne, Ashley Park, Paul Forman, Coco Rocha, Elsa Hosk, Olivia Palermo, Ivy Getty, Law Roach, Morgan Stewart, and Rossy de Palma, choreographer Sadeck Berrabah’s work captivated the audience.

After the performance, Louboutin spoke to journalists about the departure from last season’s cabaret-inspired presentation.

In the performance, Berrabah acted as the conductor directing fifty dancers on a black set of bleachers with a reflective mirror above. The dancers execute a style of movement called ‘tutting’.

Indeed, the effect of the dancers dressed in black jumpsuits with flashes of white and red moving in precise unison was hypnotic. Live opera singers and a string group performed pieces flanking the stage in boxes, intensifying the experience.

The dancers wore customized black and white Astribottas boots made exclusively for the show, and red and black gloves and soles punctuated the iconic red brand marker.

The performance was also a reminiscent of over 30 years ago; Robert Palmer’s girls. Perhaps Berrabh and Louboutin’s collaboration can introduce the modern-day version. Or at least a new course of Pilates, as several movements emphasized the physical strength of the dancers.

After the show, guests mingled in the ornate lobby to catch a glimpse of the fall/winter 2023 collection, which playfully referenced flamenco patterns. The location was more than a design muse but a passion for the creator.
