For years, the rule in Cupertino was simple: you touch an iPad, you type on a Mac. That rule ends this Friday. The MacBook Pro OLED — officially the MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display — reaches customers on 6 November, and it is the first Mac you can tap, swipe and pinch directly on screen.
It does not arrive alone. According to MacRumors and Macworld, five new Apple products go on sale the same day: the two touchscreen MacBook Pro sizes, a 14-inch MacBook Pro refreshed with the new M6 chip, an M6 iMac and an iPad mini that switches to OLED. Pre-orders opened in France on 28 October, with first deliveries set for Friday, as iPhoneAddict and Consomac both reported. Call it Apple’s autumn collection, landing all at once.

MacBook Pro OLED: the screen that changes the Mac
The headline is the display. Apple calls it PROLED XDR, a tandem OLED panel that peaks at 2,000 nits in both HDR and SDR, with a claimed contrast ratio of 10,000,000:1 and a refresh rate that adapts between 10Hz and 120Hz. In practice, that means true blacks, vivid highlights and smooth scrolling — the kind of screen photographers and film editors usually pay extra for on a separate monitor.
Touch is only half the novelty. The notch gives way to a Dynamic Island, the animated pill familiar to iPhone owners. Underneath sit the M5 Pro or M5 Max chips, with up to 128GB of unified memory and up to 16TB of storage. Apple quotes up to 24 hours of battery life, and around half a charge in 30 minutes with a compatible adapter.
The professional ports survive the redesign: three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe and a headphone jack, alongside Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and a six-speaker sound system. The 14-inch model weighs 1.38kg and the 16-inch 1.82kg.
“The new MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display is a monumental step forward for the Mac.” — Johny Srouji, Apple’s chief hardware officer, in the company’s announcement
Bold words, and a bold price to match. In France, the 14-inch with M5 Pro starts at €3,299 and the 16-inch at €3,899; the M5 Max versions open at €5,199 and €5,599, according to iPhoneAddict and Macarel. In the United States, the range starts at $2,899. Patience may also be required: MacRumors notes that some configurations, including the entry 14-inch in Space Black, already show waits of several weeks.
iPad mini, iMac and an M6 MacBook Pro: the rest of the drop
For those who prefer to keep their fingers off a laptop screen, the rest of Friday’s line-up is more accessible.
- iPad mini — the small tablet moves to an 8.5-inch OLED display, gains the A20 Pro chip and an IP67 rating against water and dust. From €759 in France.
- iMac M6 — the 24-inch all-in-one steps up to Apple’s new M6 generation. From €1,799.
- MacBook Pro 14-inch M6 — the classic, non-touch model, now with the M6 chip, for those who want the latest silicon without the OLED premium. From €2,299.
The iPad mini is the quiet star of the bunch. A compact OLED tablet, waterproof enough for a rainy terrace on the Canal Saint-Martin, is exactly the sort of object that slips into a handbag and becomes indispensable — though at €759 it is no longer the budget option it once was.
What comes next — and is it worth it?
Apple is not quite finished. HomeView, its new smart-home display with a 7-inch screen and Siri, is due on 13 November, according to MacRumors and Macworld. The home, after the desk, is the next battleground.
So, should you queue on Friday? If you edit images, colour-grade video or simply live in your laptop, the MacBook Pro OLED is the most significant Mac redesign in years, and the screen alone justifies a visit to an Apple Store to see it in person. If your Mac mostly handles email and streaming, the M6 MacBook Pro or the new iMac deliver the speed for considerably less. And if you have been waiting for a reason to buy a small tablet, this iPad mini might be it.
Either way, the Mac has finally learned to listen to a fingertip. At STAMP, we have always liked our technology beautiful and useful — from the INSTAX SQUARE Link printer to the electric Taxi Seine — and this one ticks both boxes.
